Music Appreciation
GDF Social Initiative - Fairfield County, USA
Our mission: Promote contemporary art through music and developing a social campaign, by exploring music’s various functionalities
to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for all types of music.

The Gabriela Dias Foundation partnered with
Crescendo Music Darien and Sarah Lemieux for our Music Appreciation Social Initiative.
Our children from The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford explored different instruments such as Eukulele, Dulcimer and Cajón.
They learned the differences in tuning, and sound as well as the places of origin of these unique instruments.
Award winning Composer, Vocalist and Instructor Sarah Lemieux taught GDF kids about singing, its different elements and benefits. Voice ranges, techniques and composing their own song using rhyming and rhythm.
Fun Facts:
According to the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation (NAMM Foundation), learning to
play an instrument can improve mathematical learning and even increase SAT scores.
Dancing to music helps children build motor skills while allowing them to practice self-expression.
For both children and adults, music helps strengthen memory skills.
