About The Event
Our Charity Poker Tournament will be in benefit of The Gabriela Dias Foundation and it’s “Hope for change” projects 2019.
Our mission is to provide once in a lifetime experiences in learning through arts and education. We want to support disadvantaged children and youth in both Brazil and USA to provide them with unique opportunities that they would otherwise not have. We will carry programs at our GDF Cultural Center such as: After-school learning programs, arts education, building audiences for the arts, school leadership and summer learning opportunities.
Fairfield County - Due to the strong evidence that exposure to multiple layers of disadvantaged cultures is more deleterious to a child’s health, achievement and well-being any single indicator of poverty. 15% of Connecticut’s indigent population live in racially concentrated neighborhoods that face amongst the highest levels of segregation in the nation. Similar to the experience of those living in Greater Detroit and Philadelphia.
Vale do Jequitinhonha - One of the poorest regions of Minas Gerais. With respect to education, a key variable to income distribution and economic growth, the situation is bad. Fifty five percent of the towns in this region have an average range of only 2.5 years of proper education. The highest percentage of Minas Gerais illiterates is found in this region, resulting in over 30% of the people over 25 years of age in being considered illiterate.
